If you love berries, Ashe County is the place to be this Saturday, July 24. Whether you bake 'em, pick 'em or eat 'em - or even all three, you'll be in berry heaven!
Bring your homemade pies to be judged at the Ashe Farmers Market between 9:30-10:30 AM. The contest is open to all Ashe County residents. Requirements: Berry, any berry grown in Ashe County; no store-bought pastry shells or fillings; copy of recipe must be submitted with entry; use disposable pie tins; limit 2 pies per contestant. Refrigeration or heating will not be not available. Entries will be judged on taste and appearance. The winner receives $20 Farmers' Market gift certificate and their recipe printed in the newspaper.
Join Old Orchard Creek Farm at the 3rd Annual Blueberry Festival, a benefit for Blue Ridge Conservancy from noon-6PM (program at 2:30 PM). Festivities include blueberry picking, music, BBQ with all the fixin's (including vegetarian options), iced tea, and blueberry cobbler - all for a suggested donation of $30 per person.
