Brevard Music Center Program, Then and Now

The Brevard Music Center began its 75th Season on Friday, June 24. 75 years have brought a variety of changes.

"The First Annual" Official Program from 1946 consisted of 8 pages.  The festival lasted 3 days and guest artists were violinist Carroll Glenn, soprano Selma Kaye and tenor Mario Berini. Programming for opening weekend included Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, Weber's Overture to Oberon, Five Miniatures by Paul White, and Georges Bizet's Carmen Suite. Ms. Kaye also sang "Parigi, o cara, noi Lasceremo from La Traviata.

This year, our program guides (no longer called "Overture") have taken on a new look and have reverted to the same size as our 1946 program. They will have all of the information that was contained in the Overture
magazine. Faculty and guest artist biographies as well as program notes and repertoire will be listed chronologically. Pick up a free copy from the box office or from any of the student or volunteer ushers around Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium. There will be recycling bins for your unwanted Progam Guides when you leave a concert.

Each season the  production staff creates a new mural for the back wall in the Center's box office. This year's creation is definitely worth viewing, containing brochures, Overture covers and other various publication pieces that have represented Brevard Music Center over the last 75 years.
