Mountain Brews News: Beer Tasting Tonight in Asheville

April 29, 5 PM -7 PM at Hops and Vines enjoy a free of Natty Greene's 2011 Pro-Am Winner "Bat Cave Dave's Weizenbock" brew!  David Keller, a local homebrewer from Bat Cave and a member of MALT, the Asheville Homebrew club, won Best of Show at the Battleground Guild Brewer's competition in Greensboro in the fall of 2009. The grand prize was a brew session at Natty Greene's Brewery where the beer would be brewed on a commercial system and sold by the brewery to the public. This past December, the beer was brewed by David and Mike Rollinson, the head brewer at the Natty Greene's Restaurant.

The beer is a Weizenbock which is a strong German ale with a very high percentage of wheat. Over 60 % of the grain bill was German wheat.  Batdave's Weizenbock was designed as a Schneider Aventinus clone. The BJCP guidelines describe this style as a strong, malty, fruity, wheat-based ale combining the best  flavors of a dunkleweizen and the rich strength and body of a bock. Not exactly a summer drink but try it now before the weather really gets hot.

Hops and Vines offers over 300 beers, with an emphasis on US microbreweries and European imports and is located at 797 Haywood Rd. Ste 100,  West Asheville, NC.
