North Carolina is the 7th largest apple-producing state in the nation and Henderson County is the largest apple-producing county in North Carolina (about 65% of the NC production). From late August and early September through the end of October Apples are harvested on local NC Orchards. In additional to selling the best, freshest apples on the planet, many of the orchards are open for tours and events and offer a variety of handmade treats and gifts, like fried apple pies, canned goods, apple butter, apple cider, jellies, jams, sauces, chow chow and homemade baked goods.
