Craig Miller on PBS "Southern Accents"

"Southern Accents" show host Karen Elliott and her crew are shooting in the North Carolina mountains this week. They will shoot in Transylvania County and interview Craig Miller for his waterfall tours; visit the Carl Sandburg Home and the Flat Rock Playhouse in Flat Rock, and interview the "Kudzu Lady" of Rutherford County. PBS-Chattanooga worked with the NC Department of Tourism  PR Team and local partners to develop the shoot.

MILLER'S LAND OF WATERFALL TOURS. Get away from the crowded tourist areas and to places you would not be able to go to on your own (no long hikes or rough roads). Ideal for seniors. See 6 to 7 beautiful falls. Most falls are located on private land. Attention photographers. I will make sure, even on bright sunny days, that I will get you to the falls with no sun on them. Bring your wide angle lens because we will be close to them with no obstructions. I do personal tours and personalize them for you. Go to my web site and e-mail me for rates. If you thought you have seen all the falls in Brevard NC area, YOU HAVEN'T!

Fishing News from David Grossman

Fall in the Asheville area is my absolute favorite time of year where chasing trout is concerned. I am a firm believer that more trophy trout are caught in the next two months then the rest of the year combined. This trophy season is a product of wild brown and brook trout beginning their annual spawning ritual with great opportunities to catch the trophy of a lifetime during these trout's pre-spawn activities (Remember don't  disturb fish actively spawning on redds). A great way to target these aggressive pre-spawn fish is sight fishing to them with streamers. This time of year the pattern doesn't matter as ...READ  MORE...

Color still Showy in Asheville

Leaves in the higher elevations are gone until spring, but if you missed the "peak" there are still a few places to enjoy Mother Nature's colors. Asheville appears to be your best bet for mountain fall colors. The higher elevations along the Blue Ridge Parkway are past their peak, but down around the city, they are still quite showy. In the Asheville area, the oaks and hickories are peaking, with their yellows, reds and browns, along with red sourwoods, the occasional late maple, and deeply red black gums. In  the Cashiers-Highlands area, the leaves are pretty far-gone, particularly around Highlands. However, lower down, and in sheltered areas like the Tuckasegee Gorge between Cullowhee & Glenville, there are still scattered lovely trees - esp. hickories, russet-red oaks, scattered colorful maples, and sourwoods. In summary, there is will still be some good color this coming week, but not for much longer. So take a drive in the southern mountains this week, and soak in the last of the fall color for this season!
