Riverlink Needs Volunteer

April 3, Blue Ridge Assembly, Black Mountain North Carolina. Riverlink is  seeking a volunteer who would come out to Blue Ridge Assembly Saturday morning (weather should be nice!) to set up an info booth and be part of the event from 9 a.m. until noon. Willliam Harwood, a science teacher at Rainbow Mountain School in West Asheville, is hosting a race -- the Splashdown to WOW (the World's Only Watershed) 6k and 15K at Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain -- to benefit his school's Adopt-A-Stream Team.

The Contest is produced by Catch the Spirit of Appalachia, an organization dedicated to preserving local mountain heritage. U.S. SBA Offering 4% loans for Rock-Slide Affected Businesses

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is taking applications for emergency loans from business in Haywood and adjacent counties until Aug. 24. The SBA has taken 62 requests related to the rock slide, but has granted only 14 loans, which total $1.4 million. Loans for businesses have a 4 percent interest rate with a maximum loan amount of 2 million. The loans can be repaid over 30 years, maximum, although SBA sets the repayment timeframe depending on a business' ability to pay. I-40 Rockslide Closure Repairs Nearing Completion

The N.C. Dept. of Transportation (NCDOT) is anticipating a late April re-opening of I-40, weather permitting. The original contract called for the work to be completed in March, but harsh winter weather has delayed the work. Additional work is being done along the affected corridor to stabilize five other sites.
