Andy Griffith: June 1, 1926 - July 3, 2012

Andy Griffith, renowned actor,  musician and "homeboy" to Mount Airy NC, passed away today at his home on Roanoke Island in North Carolina. He was 86.

Many of us were first charmed by Griffith in his break-through role in "No Time for Sergeants" and continued the admiration through the predictable, but addictive Mattlock episodes. His talents were not always appreciated as evidenced by the lack of awards for his incredible performance in "Face in The Crowd". But his 1996 gospel album, “I Love to Tell the Story: 25 Timeless Hymns”  went platinum and won a Grammy.

Andrew Samuel Griffith was a complex man with a lifelong down-to-earth fortitude
that persisted throughout his life. He will be well and long remembered by those of us who had the pleasure to have known him either in person and on screen.
