NC Holiday Events: Festival of Trees begins today in Cashiers

December 10 - Jan 1   Festival of Trees  The Village Green will make spirits bright this holiday season with “Christmas On the Green.” Visitors to the 12.5 acre park will enjoy twinkling light displays and festive decorations from Thanksgiving weekend until January 1, 2013. One of the highlights of “Christmas On the Green” will be a Festival of Trees decorated by local merchants and non profit organizations. “The Festival of Trees celebrates one of the area’s greatest industries and showcases our local businesses,” says Village Green Executive Director Ann Self. After the holiday season, the evergreen trees will be planted in The Village Green for continued enjoyment.

USDAA Dog Agility Trial this week in Asheville NC

December 14-16  USDAA Dog Agility Trial   The Blue Ridge Agility Club of Western North Carolina will host a United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA) agility trial. Spectators are welcomed to attend and admission is free.

Over 150 purebred and mixed bred dogs, from throughout the southeast, will compete at various levels of difficulty. Spectators, please leave your dogs comfortably at home. Held at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center.

The Polar Express this Weekend at the Great Smoky Mountins Railroad

Now through December 30   The Polar Express on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad All Aboard The Polar Express for a memorable journey to the magic of the Holiday season. The 1.25 hour round-trip excursion departs the Bryson City depot for a journey through a peaceful wilderness to a special visit at the North Pole.

The motion picture soundtrack music plays as guests on board enjoy warm cocoa and a treat while reading along with the magical story. Children's faces show the magic of the season when the train arrives at the "North Pole" to find Santa Claus waiting.

Santa will board The Polar Express, greeting each child and presenting everyone a special gift as in the story – a special silver sleigh bell. Christmas carols will be sung on the return back to the Bryson City Depot.

NC Holiday Events: NC towns hold Christmas Celebrations tonight

Christmas is celebrated in historic downtowns throughout the NC mountain regions and towns. NC City: BLACK MOUNTAIN
Event: Holly Jolly Christmas
A festive evening visiting downtown shops of Black Mountain with stores staying open late and Santa will make an appearance.

NC City: WAYNESVILLE
Event: Art After Dark
Downtown galleries and studios remain open until 9 PM. The evening features special openings, demonstrations, artist receptions, and music.  


NC City: WEAVERVILLE
Event: Weaverville Candlelight Christmas Stroll
Downtown Weaverville will be aglow the with luminaries along the streetsand local choirs and bands will provide music. Horse and buggy rides will be available through town. Local businesses will be open late for Christmas shopping, and kids can visit with Santa.


NC City: HENDERSONVILLE
Event: Olde Fashioned Hendersonville Christmas -
An event featuring carolers, entertainment, merchant's open house and refreshments, all with a Victorian flair. Held in historic downtown Hendersonville. 


NC City: FRANKLIN
Event: Winter Wonderland in Franklin
Franklin's Holiday Festival transforms Historic downtown Franklin into a Winter Wonderland. The event will be one night only with live music, Santa Clause, wagon rides and more. 5 PM - 9 PM. The Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet will be headlining the entertainment performing two concerts, one at 7:00 PM and the other at 8:00 PM. Artist Ryan McCurdy from Asheville will create a special slide made of ice for the young and young at heart to enjoy.

Dillsboro Lights and Luminaries Journey back to the days of yesteryear as Dillsboro presents its annual Festival of Lights and Luminaries. Experience the magic as the entire town is transformed into a winter wonderland of lights, candles, laughter and song! 2500 luminaries light your way to shops and studios. Horse and buggy rides available each night from 5-8 pm (cost + tips). Shopkeepers provide live music and serve holiday treats with hot cider and cocoa. Carolers sing and children visit with Santa at Town Hall.
