Tweetsie Railroad Special Events: Railroad Heritage 2015

August 29 - 30, 2015    Railroad Heritage 2015 at Tweetsie Railroad    A once per year event for railroad enthusiasts of all ages. Enjoy a very special weekend celebrating the history of Tweetsie Railroad, the ET & WNC Railroad and mountain culture. 

Traditional dance and craft demonstrations by the Cherokee Tsalagi Program will also be featured on Saturday.

NC Train Rides a Highlight of Summer Fun

Tweetsie Railroad stays open until 9 PM on Saturday nights. The park will feature special train show rides at dusk producing cool summer memories for families and kids of all ages. Cool Summer nights is included in regular park admission.  Blowing Rock NC.


Tweetsie Railroad was North Carolina's first theme park and today still manages to blend fantasy, nature and technology into a fun and educational experience for kids of ALL ages. Hop aboard the train and let good ol' Engine Number 12 take you on an unforgettable three-mile journey through the scenic mountains. You'll arrive transported back into the days of the Old West.  Be a cowboy, Indian or an engineer on an historic steam locomotive, Number 12, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Open April through October.


July 11, 2015    Fontana Trestle Train Ft. BBQ & Brews    
The Barbeque and Brews Dinner Trains feature locally hand-crafted beer from Heinzelmannchen Brewery and Nantahala Brewing Company. plus slow-cooked authentic North Carolina Barbeque. The train departs Bryson City Depot at 7 PM and travels through the scenic mountain countryside to the Fontana Trestle for a spectacular sunset. The base ticket prices from $69 (adults over 21 only) and includes a souvenir tasting glass with three beer samples and a meal of pulled pork, homemade coleslaw and apple pie. Additional beer will be available for purchase.  

The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad chugs out of Bryson City NC on a daily basis. With the romance and mystique of an era gone by, guests on board the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad will enjoy scenic train journeys across fertile valleys, through tunnels and across river gorges in a spectacular region called the Great Smoky Mountains. Tweetsie Railroad Opens for the season this week

April 10, 2015  Tweetsie Railroad   OPENING DAY for the 2015 season. All aboard for NC's oldest theme park and another season of wild-west fun and excitement. Tweetsie Railroad, North Carolina's first theme park, takes a trip back into the days of the Old West. Hop aboard the train for an unforgettable three-mile journey through the scenic mountains. Even in today's high-tech world, there's still a place for old-fashioned fun. 


Tweetsie Railroad is a unique NC attraction that allows children and families to explore their imaginations and a whole lot more. Be a cowboy, Indian or an engineer and take a ride on historic steam locomotive, Number 12, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy a variety of rides offering everything from thrills to fun family. See live shows or pan for gold and gems, or play arcade and country fair games. Meet and pet the friendly animals in the Deer Park Habitat. There are also lots of dining and snack options and shopping for Park souvenirs and gifts. 


Tweetsie Railroad is open daily April - October with special events offered throughout the season.

Don't miss the final week of the Polar Express at The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

November 8 - December 29   The Polar Express at The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad   Journey to the North Pole via the Polar Express to pick up Santa all the while enjoying caroling, cookies, and cocoa - and for those who truly believe; a silver bell just like in the book. Kids of all ages will believe in the magic of the Holiday season.

With only a few weeks left of  THE POLAR EXPRESS season, tickets are going fast. Don't miss the last few dates to book your seat on board this magical train ride. Jere's what some of this year's riders are saying:

Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Peanuts Pumpkin Patch Express this weekend

October 5 - 6   Peanuts Pumpkin Patch Express   The PEANUTS gang return the the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Pumpkin Patch for this annual family fun favorite. The excursions, which are themed after Charles M. Schulz's classic story "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," will be departing from the Bryson City Depot and arriving at the Pumpkin Patch. Event activities include campfire marshmallows, a coloring station, temporary tattoos, trick or treating, bouncy house, hayrides and live musical entertainment.

Tweetsie Railroad Opens this Weekend for the 2013 Season

April 12   Tweetsie Railroad    Opens for the 2013 Season   All aboard for NC's oldest theme park and another season of wild-west fun & excitement!   April 12 through May 27, 2013 hours: Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and Memorial Day Monday, May 27, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.  May 31 through August 18, 2013: Open 7 days a week, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.   August 23 through November 3, 2013: Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and Labor Day Monday, September 2, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Some of the special events offered throughout the 2013 Season include:


May 7-9 and 15-16 : Letterland Days. See your favorite Letterland Characters come to life. From Talking Tess's Train to Eddie Elephant's gem area, each area of the Park is an opportunity for children to learn and play.


May 31 - June 9: Day Out with Thomas. All Aboard for a 25 minute ride with a full size Thomas the Tank engine. Meet Sir Topham Hatt and enjoy storytelling, live music and build with Mega Bloks.

June 21-23: Meet Dora and Diego. Kids can meet Nickelodeon's Dora the Explorer and her cousin Diego from 11 AM through 3 PM throughout the weekend.


July 4: 4th of July Celebration. The Park gates will be upon until 9 AM for the most exciting fireworks display in the High Country. Specialk dinner options are offered.

July 6, 13, 20, 27: Cool Summer Nights
. The Park stays open until 9 PM and features special train show rides at dusk and the chance to make some cool summer memories.


July 12 - 14: Sponge Bob Square Pants and Patrick Star. Kids can meet Nickelodeon's Sponge Bob and Patrick Star from 11 AM through 3 PM throughout the weekend.

The Polar Express this Weekend at the Great Smoky Mountins Railroad

Now through December 30   The Polar Express on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad All Aboard The Polar Express for a memorable journey to the magic of the Holiday season. The 1.25 hour round-trip excursion departs the Bryson City depot for a journey through a peaceful wilderness to a special visit at the North Pole.

The motion picture soundtrack music plays as guests on board enjoy warm cocoa and a treat while reading along with the magical story. Children's faces show the magic of the season when the train arrives at the "North Pole" to find Santa Claus waiting.

Santa will board The Polar Express, greeting each child and presenting everyone a special gift as in the story – a special silver sleigh bell. Christmas carols will be sung on the return back to the Bryson City Depot.

Hop Aboard the Dinosaur Train this Weekend

August 4-5   Dinosaur Train™  This event is based on the popular PBS-Kid television series, created by Jim Henson. This adventure filled train ride is packed full with music, stories, entertainment, and activities. PLUS all children will receive their very own Nature Trackers Club guidebook and membership card.

News Year's Eve Gala at the Smoky Mountains Railroad

December 31 from 9 PM - New Year's Eve Gala - Welcome 2012 in Class - first class that is, with a night on the train. Enjoy dinner and dancing with a champagne toast at midnight. Do something different than the old traditional party and hop on board for the send off the season. The train departs from the historic Bryson City, NC depot at 9 PM and returns after the midnight toast.

The First Class meal will begin with a salad made of fresh baby greens in a raspberry vinaigrette dressing and warm yeast rolls. Choose from a selection of delicious entrees: Spinach stuffed chicken with a creamy;  parmesan sauce, Seasoned pork loin served with a tart raspberry glaze;  Portobello mushroom tower stuffed with smoked peppers, spinach and parmesan cheese.  Finish off your meal with a tasty rich White Chocolate Cheesecake covered with Fresh Berries.

Dance the Night Away...with entertainment provided by Alias Smith and Jones. Atlanta-based acoustic guitar/vocal duo whose vast repertoire ranges from the must-have classics to the totally unexpected.
Two experienced guitarists combine their voices with harmonica, flute, mandolin, percussion, and a few surprises to deliver a unique musical experience.
ARRIVE EARLY....for a special reception beginning at 7:45pm in the Smoky Mountain Trains Museum located steps away from the depot!  Start the night with an exclusive selection of beer, wine and mixed drinks.
Feast on array of hors d' oeuvres; Tiger Shrimp with Cocktail sauce,  Button Mushrooms stuffed with Shrimp/Crab and Parmesan, Fruit covered in rich chocolate.

NC Halloween Event: The Great Pumpkin Patch Express - Last Weekend

October 28-30   For the last time this season the  PeanutsTM - The Great Pumpkin Patch Express  Chugs out of Bryson City NC and into Halloween Fun. Kids should puy on their Halloween costumes and join Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy at The Great Pumpkin Patch for photos and an opportunity to select their own pumpkin.

Activities include hayrides, live musical entertainment, story telling, a hay bale maze, the bouncy horse, apple cider and campfire marshmallows, Peanuts products at the gift shop, face painting, a petting zoo and, of course, Halloween trick or treating.
