It's Tailgate Time in the Mountains

This month "Tailgate" Markets have opened up for the season in most mountain communities. Shopping the markets is a great way to meet local folks  and give your food dollar directly to the person who grew your food.  Look for produce, meat, cheese, eggs, bread, flowers, plants, crafts, and more. The early spring markets’ tables will display a variety of greens, radishes, peas, asparagus and  spring fare. Find baked goods, preserves such as jellies and dressings. The more diverse markets now carry prepared foods such as mustards, frozen meals, pasta, kimchi, and tempeh too. For those who want to grow their own food, many markets offer plant starts.  Get a list of 79 Markets throughout Western North Carolina here.
