Brevard Golf Course offers Hairy Caddies

Improvements and innovations have been taking place at the Sherwood Forest Golf Course just outside Brevard NC. PGA Professional Brian Lautenschlager is proud of the current and future renovations which have already earned the course the first stage certification from Audubon Sanctuary Golf Course Certification Program under the auspices of Audubon International.

One of the new "green" concepts is the use of llamas as caddies. Lautenschlager has teamed up with Brevard's Great Smoky Mountains Greenskeepers Inc. owner Mark English to train the llamas, natural pack animals, to carry golf bags. The llamas are naturally calm and relaxed and their hair is hypoallergenic, so there’s no fear of any allergic reactions from golfers. They have soft padded feetand, unlike golf carts, do no damage to the course.

Llamas are available every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9AM to 11AM. Sherwood Forest is open to the public as well as residents of the Sherwood Forest community. For details call: (828) 884-7825 or visit: http://www.sherwoodforestnc.org/golf_course.html
