Celebrate Fourth of July in Black Mountain

The Montreat Fourth of July Parade: A community celebration open to the public. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. on Lookout Road and comes down to Assembly Drive and around Lake Susan and consists of creative and unusual floats created by both families and businesses. Spectators line up along the streets with chairs, picnics and blankets. The parade ends at Anderson Auditorium where a flag-raising ceremony takes place.
The fun continues throughout the day at Montreat—the tennis courts, boats and pools are free and open to the public all day. A BBQ picnic takes places at noon, an old-timers softball game at 2 p.m. and a barn dance at 7:30 p.m. So bring your picnics, blankets and chairs and enjoy this one-of-a-kind Fourth of July celebration. Black Mountain’s Annual Fireworks Display: Sponsored by the Black Mountain-Swannanoa Chamber of Commerce and Black Mountain Parks and Recreation, event highlights include a street dance, music and clowns for children. A variety of vendors will serve food and drink, although many town folk pack a picnic dinner and come early to reserve the best viewing spots. All the activities take place at the public parking lot across from the Old Depot on Sutton Avenue. Sutton Avenue will be closed to traffic for the street dance and viewing fireworks. Festivities begin at 6 p.m., fireworks begin at dark. Music at White Horse Black Mountain: The Great American Roots Revival! Doors open at 3 p.m. and music starts at 5 p.m. Town Mountain (bluegrass, roots), Jane & Anna of the Barrel House Mamas (sultry sounds of Appalachian music) and Ian Thomas (eclectic Americana folkie). Red, White and Brew Pizza Festival at Camino’s Southwestern Grille: Outdoor music, pizza and beer in conjunction with Rolln’ Stone Pizza Co. View the fireworks from the side lawn and enjoy gourmet pizza. Free admission.
