Mountain Mitchell Craft Fair this Weekend in Burnsville

August 2-3   Mount Mitchell Craft Fair  Hundreds of vendors and thousands of visitors will participate in the 56th Annual Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair. 

The event takes place on the Town Square and surrounding streets. Handcrafters from all over the United States come to sell their wares including baskets, candles, kettle corn, pottery, stained glass, and so much more. The event is free to the public with entertainment throughout the day.

Blue Ridge Parkway Section Closed from Storm Damage

The Blue Ridge Parkway is closed to all traffic, including pedestrian and bicycle traffic, from Milepost 376 at Ox Creek Road to Milepost 355 at Mt Mitchell State Park due to structural damage from recent heavy rains.

Three different detours are available. Get a map and specific details HERE.


As of this writing thatis the only closure on the Parkway. Be sure to always check the Blue Ridge Parkway Road Closure Map before embarking on your adventure.

August 1   An Appalachian Summer Festival: An Acoustic Evening with Mary Chapin Carpenter  and Shawn Colvin featuring special guest Suzanne Veg Acclaimed songwriters (and longtime friends) Mary Chapin Carpenter & Shawn Colvin share the stage as an intimate duo, performing material spanning their vast catalogues as well as some of their favorite songs. These two iconic singer songwriters will be joined by legendary folk-singer Suzanne Vega for a special one-night only appearance.

29th Annual Grassy Creek Gem Show in Spruce Pine

July 29 - August   29th Annual Grassy Creek Gem Show   An outdoor gem show featuring dealers from around the world. Items for sale include jewelry, raw minerals and jewels, equipment, gemstones, fossils and more. There are 72 dealers who have all kinds of gemstones, mineral specimens, jewelry, beads, fossils, and lots more. Admission is FREE. Parking is FREE.

The event is held at the Parkway Fire and Rescue Department at 12966 Hwy. 226 South, in Spruce Pine, NC, halfway between US 19E and the Blue Ridge Parkway (exit 331).
