Slow Food Asheville Feast Tomorrow

Oct 3, 5Pm-7PM, the Weinhaus, downtown Asheville NCMeet the Wine Geek - Dan Kravits of Hand Picked Selections will join us for a tasting. Local producers will be providing food to pair with the wines including West End Bakery breads, Three Graces Creamery cheeses, Sunburst Trout, Hickory Nut Gap meats, and Flying Cloud Farm Veggies. The fund-raiser supports the Time For Lunch Campaign and FEAST cooking program. Slow Food Asheville's Time For Lunch is working help get more fresh local food into schools. $10 (or more) donation.

Forest Festival Day in Pisgah Forest

Oct 3, 9AM-5PM, The Cradle of Forestry, Brevard area. The chips fly this weekend when lumberjacks and jills from four colleges compete in events like "Team Log Roll," "Horizontal Speed Chop," "Pulpwood Toss" and "Pole Fell." In addition to the competitions over 50 traditional craftspeople, exhibitors and musicians who will be on hand to celebrate the heritage of our nation's forests. The music venue is old time and bluegrass music by some standout musicians, including the unforgettably-named "The Mason Jar Drinkers."

There's No Place Like Home - Except Beech Mountain

Oct 3-4, Land of Oz theme park, Beech Mountain
This year's celebration coincides with the 70th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz movie, released in 1939. Autumn at Oz begins with a hayride or shuttle ride from the Town of Beech Mountain up to the enchanted forest. Once there, attendees are treated to live music, a tour of Dorothy’s House, a mini Oz museum, magic shows and face painting. The highlight for many is the panoramic view from the Judy Garland Memorial Overlook Gazebo and a leisurely stroll along the yellow brick road, which consists of 44,000 yellow bricks.

Downtown Sylva Chilly Fest Heats it Up

Oct 10, noon-5PM, the Bridge Park in downtown Sylva. This event will feature a chili cook-off, (from 12-3:00 - winners will be announced at 3:30) three live bands, and wonderful arts and crafts vendors. Bring the whole family. This event will be loaded with activities for children of all ages!
