Brevard Music Center Summer Festival Begins Tomorrow

June 21, 2014   Opening Night at Brevard Music Center   for the 2014 season Summer Festival offers a special performance by one of the world's most acclaimed violinist Itzhak Perlman. Perlman will join BMC Artistic Director Keith Lockhart and the Brevard Music Center Orchestra for an evening of his most well-loved works from film, television and classical repertoire.  Pre-concert Talk at 5 PM.

The 78th season kicks off tomorrow with the BMC debut of Itzhak Perlman. The landmark concert is followed by nearly 80 different performances including Garrick Ohlsson, the Shanghai Quartet, Conrad Tao, four operas, twelve chamber music concerts, and dozens of free music events throughout the community as the Festival continues.

As students, faculty, and staff dine together in the cafeteria and the sounds of orchestra rehearsals echo through the hills there is no mistaking the excitement over what the next seven weeks have to offer. With  intensive study, practice and performance, and, after nearly 80 years, excellence continues by musicians and audiences experience the thrill of a summer at Brevard Music Center.

While everyone is excited about this opening event, having over 2,000 guests on the campus also requires some special considerations to ensure that everyone has a good time. Here are some options recommended to help make your evening at the Music Center as enjoyable as possible.
Arrive Early:
In order to allow time for all guests to park and be seated, arrive early. Feel free to pack a picnic dinner, or order one of the Picnics by Mayberry’s, and enjoy your dinner on our picturesque campus before the show begins. Concessions will open at 4:00 pm for this event.

Carpool:
While this is simply not possible for all guests, anyone who can is encouraged to share rides to the event. If you have purchased reserved parking, please consider inviting guests who do not have reserved spaces to ride to the event with you.

Plan to Stay for the Entire Concert:
Cars parked in the rear of the auditorium parking lot will be parked closely together in order to accommodate the large number of anticipated guests. This means that there is a real possibility that your car will will be “parked in” and you will be unable to leave in your vehicle until the end of the performance. If you know that special circumstances will require you to leave before the end of the concert, please let a parking attendant know before your vehicle is parked.

Other Considerations:
If you are using a GPS, please enter the address 349 Andante Lane, Brevard, NC 28712.
While Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium has three times the number of designated handicapped parking spaces required by law, there is also a growing number of patrons who require handicapped parking. Unfortunately the only fair way to address the demand for these spaces is to make them available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please plan to arrive early if you require handicapped parking.

Andante Lane will be closed to traffic prior to the concert, except for Maestro Society Season Parking Pass holders. All other traffic will be directed through the BMC main entrance on Music Camp Road and to the Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium parking lot. Parking attendants will be on site to direct you to a parking space.
Maestro Society members should enter campus via Andante Lane off Probart Street, and then follow the Maestro Society signage and instructions of our parking staff. Please display your 2014 Season Parking Pass from your rear view mirror to identify yourself as a Maestro Society member.

Just as it will take time to get everyone parked before the concert, it will also take some time for the parking lot to clear afterwards. Please be patient, and follow the instructions of the parking staff as they help direct traffic out of the lot as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The concert will go on, rain or shine. In the event of rain, we are happy to upgrade lawn seats to seats under the roof if any are available. However, it is anticipated that very few seats will be available inside the auditorium on the night of the event. If you have a lawn ticket for this concert, please check the weather forecast and plan accordingly.

Tune your radio to 1240AM WSQL for live traffic updates from the Music Center in the hour preceding the concert. There will be periodic announcements regarding parking starting at 5:00 PM on the evening of the concert.
