Stories of Mountain Folk for 8/25/12

Sotries of Mountain Folk is a weekly podcast is produced by Catch the Spirit of Appalachia and archived at Western Carolina University.

Storytelling: Amy shares her story about a sad day in train history, "Cowee Tunnel," that took place in 1883. The story is accented by the song "Cowee Tunnel" by Milan Miller.


Creative Corner: Doreyl's guest is Sharon Petersen whose grandmother was from Wolf Mountain. Sharon creates creative colorful fabric dolls. Music: "Coat of Many Colors" by the Heltons.


Stories of Mountain Folk: Amy's guest is Betty Barnes from Alarka, who tells stories about growing up in the mountains.  Music: "He Is Here" by Barnes Family.


Apple Butter: Nicole's guest is Curtis Sikes, a teacher from Swain Middle School, who has published a new book, "The Heart of a King."  Music: "Children Sing" by the Butterpats.


Down Another Road: Judy's guest is Henry Watts from Asheville; they discuss his childhood at his grandparent's home in Madison County.  Music: "Hometown Blues" by the Blue Ridge Rounders.
