President Obama Signs National Park Service Centennial Act into Law

The National Parks Foundation is thrilled to report that President Obama signed the National Park Service Centennial Act (PL 114-289) into law on December 16, 2016.  For the past 18 months, NPF has worked closely with The National Park Service and other partners to pass this significant legislation.

Among its many important components, the act establishes a Second Century Endowment for our national parks that will be housed at and managed by The Foundation. It also provides dedicated funding for the Centennial Challenge program, which leverages federal funds with philanthropic support secured by NPF and local Friends Groups to support projects and programs across the National Park System.

The Act also makes important structural changes to The National Parks Founration’s board of directors and authorizes $5 million in annual appropriations for the first time in NPF’s history. Learn more about how these improvements will enhance NPF’s work by reading the Foundation's press release.
